My Pawsome Tuesday!

tuesday-037

Greetings, pawsome peeps! How’s it going? Hope that everything’s well.

over-the-moon

This morning, when I walked into the class, Miss Javed and my mates were discussing about the article that I wrote on leadership.Surprise, surprise! We read it through and talked about certain points in there. Then, Miss Javed printed it so we could put it up on our SMSC (spiritual, moral, social and cultural development) wall. I felt so honoured to have my article displayed on the wall. It’s really worth all the hard work that I put into it. I felt thankful to Miss Javed for the opportunity and recognition that she has given me! I really appreciate it and will use this to drive myself towards my goal in life. I will not forget to take Hazel with me on my journey to reach the stars! What a great way to start my morning, huh? 😀

After all the morning hoo-ha, we moved on to Literacy. Literacy was really interesting. We got to use thesauri for the first time (well, at least it was most of the children’s first time)!  My group had to think of 7 simple adjectives and find better words for them in the thesaurus. I managed to think of 6 words and find 3 or 4 words for each of them.

Then we had a break. When we came back in, it was time for Maths. We all went to our groups to start the lesson. In my group, we had to do equivalent fractions. Some of the children in ‘GO’ group groaned and said “Aww! 😦 “. But we had no choice and had to get on with it. As usual, we managed to answer all the questions.

Then it was lunch time. For my lunch, I had:

  1. A Southern fried veggie burger
  2. Sweetcorn
  3. Salad
  4. Apple pie
  5. Juice

By the time lunch had finished, everybody could not calm down. It’s hard to calm down when you’ve just had a break, especially when you’ve played an exciting game. At last, everyone managed to simmer down.  Then, Miss Javed proceeded with the register. After the register, Miss Javed said that we would be… MAKING COMPASSES!!! Everybody whooped “Yay!” and leaped up off their seats. Then the phone started to ring. Miss Hussain went to answer it. When she came back, she told me something. There was going to be an exciting event. It was… me and Nimah’s 2nd council meeting!

Once again, we repeated the journey that we did before. We collected Nimah, picked up the other children from the other schools and arrived at Victoria Park Primary Academy. Then, we gathered our visitor stickers again and went through to the meeting room. We then said hello to the teacher that was hosting the meeting. After that, we said our names so the teacher could put our names on the register. The next thing that we had to do was to re-cap on what we did last week.

cancel-your-meeting

Firstly, we talked about what qualities a good leader has. We went round the table and shared our ideas. Then, we put forward some points about why we think that so and so is good or why so and so is bad.

Christmas-Disco1

Then, we started talking about the Christmas disco again. We talked about the letter for it and the invitation. We were then split into 2 groups. One group would be making the invitation and the other one would be writing the letter. I was in the group that was making the invitation. I really wanted to be in this group because I’m really good at designing things. We managed to get the whole invitation done just in time. On it we had a gold background, a title, a border, pictures and writing of course!

At the end of the meeting, I gave out some of the name cards that Dr. Auntie made for me. Everyone liked them and said “Wow!”. Then, Nimah asked the teacher if we would be going to Parliament in London. The teacher replied “Yes. It has always been our tradition to go to Parliament every year.” Having heard this, the whole school council shouted “Whoo hoo!!”. Finally, it was time to go back to school sweet school.

When I got back to my class, the science lesson was already finished. I had missed the experiment! But luckily, we got to take the kit that we needed to make the compass at home. I was so relieved when I heard this.

School-Selfie

At the end of the day, I went down to Keyboard Club. When we were practicing the song that we were learning, Lean on Me, everyone managed to play it once again! Around of applause for everyone in the club! Because we could play it from start to finish, we started to learn a new song called Stay with Me. Some of us managed to play the first line of the song just before home time.

Then, I went home with Mr. Dad and spent some time with Little Miss Diva and Baby ‘A’ coz they are both poorly. 😦 As you can see, my writing is getting even more boring by the second because I am half asleep. I think that I should stop here before I make everyone else fall asleep! Good night! Don’t let the bed bugs bite!! 😉

p/s: sorry that I couldn’t reply to your email, Nimah. I was doing my writing and it was getting very late. So, I had to get ready for bed. But, I look forward to see you tomorrow in pyjamas! 😀

My Pawsome Meeting!

business-people-meeting-clip-art-686739

Howdy everyone! Today, I went to a school council meeting. It was so exciting. Another girl called Nimah, who was my friend from another class, and Miss Hussain came with me too. Before we left, everyone was asking Miss Javed ” Why can he only go to the meeting?” 😦  But then we went without answering. Two children from each of the local schools would be attending the meeting. All of them were in their school council/JLT. The total number of children in the meeting was 7.

The place that the meeting would be held at was the outstanding Victoria Park Primary Academy. Before we went to Victoria Park, we needed to pick up the other children, then we would be on our way. Me and Nimah couldn’t wait to make new friends.  When we arrived at our destination, we had to go through to the reception so the teachers could get their name tags and so that the children could get their bright orange visitor stickers. After that, we needed to go to the meeting room.

When we got there, we were all greeted by a group of friendly looking people. We all took off our warm coats and sat down. The first thing that we did was introduced ourselves. When it was my turn, Miss Hussain told me to tell them about my PAWSOME blog. So I went ahead and told them.

When that was done, we had to think about what qualities a good leader has (what a coincidence! I just wrote an article about leadership!). My two ideas were ‘trustworthy’ and ‘involve everyone’. There were so many ideas that the whole piece of paper was full! Then, we moved on to another activity.

After that, we talked about bullies and what a good leader would do to help a person that was being bullied. So we talked about this topic for a few minutes. Then, we were asked to act out a scene of a person being bullied and their friends helping them. Most of them were really interesting. One play had two bullies in it. One bully was the real one and the other one was the person that had been bullied’s friend that became one while sticking up for her friend. Another play finished off by everyone shouting “Stop bullying and be friends!” 😀

We then had a refreshing juice break. After that, we started talking about the Christmas disco that would be happening at our school/schools. As you might have guessed, we would be the ones that would be organising it! I had a million ideas whizzing through my head. But that would have to wait because it was our lunch break. There was a large variety of food for lunch. There were about 5 types of yummy sandwiches. There was chicken, salad, egg, cheese and many more. There was also some meaty samosas, crunchy crisps, fruit bags and juice. I ate:

  1. 2 fruit bags
  2. A packet of crisps
  3. A samosa
  4. Juice

After our “PAWSOME feast”, we carried on talking about the disco. The teacher told us the date of the disco, what theme it was, how many places there were and which year group it was open to. We were then told that we had some homework but… IT WAS FUN HOMEWORK!!!! :O We needed to write a draft letter for the disco and make it as interesting as possible. Then, at the next meeting, we would combine the letters together so that we could make a new one out of all of them. All of us cheered when we heard this. But then soon it was time to leave.

When me and Nimah arrived at school, my class said “Where have you been?”, but before I could answer, Miss Javed shouted “Everyone sit down!”. So then I carried on with my normal school day.

p/s: Thank you Victoria Park for your amazing hospitality!

The Leader in Me

Leaders

Leadership has always caught my interest since I was elected by my fellow classmates to be in the Junior Leadership Team (JLT) last month. Since then, I had been planning to write about leadership for the 4th volume of KAKKOII. So, I had been researching about this since October. I chose this topic because it is interesting and everyone can learn something from it. According to the Oxford Dictionary, leader means someone who leads or commands a group, organisation or country.

SportsLeadership

Leader vs Manager

The difference between leader and manager is that a leader has followers but a manager has small chances of having any. This is because a manager will say “Do it” and a leader says “Let’s do it”. According to Dr. Auntie in her ‘small lecture’ for me on this topic via FaceTime, if a manager and a leader were both on horses and they walked past a lake, the manager would force the horse to drink the water whereas the leader would inspire the horse to get it to drink the water.

Leaders: Born or Made?

Now, time for a question which people have been debating about for decades: Are leaders born or made? No one has been able to find out the answer to this dilemma. It is just like the chicken and the egg, which one comes first? No one knows! 🙂 On my opinion, I think that a person was made a leader, it is through learning that he/she could ever become a good leader. They need to polish themselves before they can become one.

Leaders of The World

There are thousands of inspirational leaders all around the world, either in the present day or in history. Here are some that I personally think are the best!

One of the great leaders which has caught my attention is Winston Churchill, who used his ‘words as weapons’. Dr. Auntie had shared a very PAWSOME article written by Jessica Talarico. The article was about how Churchill led Britain to victory in the Second World War. According to the article which I’ve read, Churchill’s speeches were the most powerful ones in the world. His words were heroic and human and had humour inserted in them too. They were heard by everyone in Britain and reached out to everyone in the world(http://www.iwm.org.uk). Somehow, I feel connected to Churchill as writing is also my weapon and the same like Churchill, I love to insert humour in my writing too! Well  at least, I always think that I’m funny 😀

Another great leader which has really inspired me was Nelson Mandela. He was the one that freed South African people and stopped them from getting racially abused. He was the president of South Africa. He was born in 1918 and died in 2013 at the age of 95 (http://www.history.com). Have any of you watched the movie “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”? It is a movie about the life of Nelson Mandela and it is really motivational. I really enjoyed watching it with Mr. Dad. If any of you PAWSOME peeps get the chance, do watch it!

You might not know it but Mr. Shephard, our principal, is also a leader. He is the principal of two schools, SHP and George Betts. He is passionate about both of them. He tries hard to keep us happy. He’s always looking out for us no matter how busy he is. I must say that he is the most PAWSOME leader I have ever met!

The last leader that I have picked is Mulan. Remember the movie Mulan which was made in the year of 1998? I wasn’t even born yet. 😀 She may not be real (as some people say) but somehow, I saw her as a great example of a leader! Whenever I think of leader or leadership, Mulan has always came into my mind. From a woman who sat at home weaving away at her loom, she was brave enough to join the army and fight in a war. She even won the war for them. While I was doing my research, I found out that the movie Mulan is related to a woman called Hua Mulan. I don’t know whether it is a coincidence or not but she was the first woman warrior to ever fight in a war (Wikipedia). Mulan is remembered in lots of different ways like songs, poems and plays/movies. Here is a verse out of a peom about her:

The Ballad of Mulan

Click click, and click click click,

By the doorway Mulan weaves.

When all at once the shuttles cease,

A sigh is heard with solemn grief.

“O my daughter who is on your mind?

O my daughter who is in your heart?”

“I have no one on my mind,

I have no one in my heart.

But last night I read the battle roll,

A roll consisting of twelve scrolls.

The Khan is drafting an army of awe,

My father’s name on each beadroll.

Alas Father has no grown son,

Alas Mulan has no elder brother.

But I will buy a saddle and horse

And join the army in place of Father.”

Leadership

The people in Junior Leadership Team (JLT) are also leaders. Well, kind of. These people were elected by their class and are trusted by them. They try hard to think of ideas to make the school a better place. I am one of them and I hope that I will be able to fulfil my duty as a leader. I have also been chosen to represent my school, along with Nimat, at the Student Council Meeting which will be held on Thursday. This meeting is a pupil forum consisting of 2 pupils elected from each of the local schools. We will be discussing local issues and make decisions about how to help improve the local community. Remember when I said earlier that a leader needs to be polished before they can even become an actual leader? Well, this meeting might be my chance to be polished! Just like Mrs. Mom said, all leaders need training. They need to go through different phases of their life before they can become a leader.

leader-23f019z

Now that I know more about leadership, I personally think that leadership should start from home. If I want to learn, then I need to successfully lead Little Miss Diva first! 😀 Even she has her own building leadership qualities. Because of her character, it is hard for me to lead her. She is very challenging even though she’s not even 2 years old yet. However, I have my own tips that I would like to share with all of you:

  1. When I started my magazine, I let her have one too. I made it look real and even came up with a name for it. Mine was KAKKOII, hers was KAWAIIKIDZ.
  2. Whenever I finish a project, I always present it to Mrs. Mom. Before I start mine, I let her present hers first.
  3. When I started this blog, she kept on chanting “blog, blog, blog”. So what I did is to let her have her own imaginary blog by talking about her blog to her and everybody else all the time.

I’d love to stay up and talk about Little Miss Diva all night long but my bed awaits me. So, I think those examples are enough to show my leadership style.

0aa3bb8

My responsibility doesn’t stop there as on Mrs. Mom’s side, as the 1st grandson, I need to set a good example not only to my brother and sister but also to my cousins. They always look up on me in everything I do. I wish that one day, I will become an exemplary leader to them and to the world!

p/s: I hope this article has helped you learn a lot more about leaders and leadership. Happy leading!!
