I’m Officially 13!

“Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant past, a blessing was sent from God to a couple, and they were warm and unbelievably kind to him. Despite the many challenges they faced, they did more than just take care of him; they cherished him and nurtured his talents!

In fact, many of this boy’s achievements were only achieved because of the hours his parents spent with him to aid him. They were with him every step of the way – they enjoyed the ups and climbed out of the downs, and every single second, they enjoyed each others’ company.

Thirteen years – and a little brother and sister – later, the trio had become a, umm…five-o? 😅 And it was only with the UNBELIEVABLE  amount of help from his parents that he was admitted into his dream school and published his very first book!”

Does that story sound familiar? Yep, that little fairy tale is about me, and each little bit is 100% true! It may sound clichéd, but my parents are probably the most loving, caring and supportive parents in the WORLD, and trust me, there’s no way you could prove that statement wrong!

Dear Mrs Mom and Mr Dad,

It may be my 13th birthday, but it’s YOU both that deserve to be celebrated! Your love is beyond words, and you are always supportive of whatever I do. I mean, how else do I explain the time when I wanted to be a fisherman…and you both were all for it?! 😂

And that’s not all: when I wanted to write my first book, you made me believe that I could achieve anything! Mr Dad, you read (and reread!) my book COUNTLESS times and gave me feedback and ideas about what to include and tweak. Mrs Mom, you sat beside me from the start to finish and helped enormously, even though you were ill!

There’s physical proof of just how much you loved me – you’ve kept every little detail from each milestone in my life: things from as early as the pregnancy test to my first haircut!

Thank you both for always supporting me and believing in me. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to repay you! You’ve always been there for me, and I know you always will be. For my 13th birthday, I pray to God that He rewards you generously for how loving you have been towards me and reserves you the highest place in heaven! (And I don’t need any presents this year, coz they definitely won’t beat you!)

Your ever-grateful son,

Omar Mukhtar

My Golden Year of Shells

When I started KES, one of the first things I was introduced to was the Liber Aureus (Golden Book). Huh? The “Liber Aureus”? The GOLDEN BOOK? That was my initial reaction. But to my surprise (and possibly disappointment), this mysterious-sounding, famous, fancy Latin-named tome of legend was not a book constructed from pure, 24-karat gold – now that I think of it, that would be quite impractical.

Apparently, this Golden Book was one of the highest achievements in the school. If you did an exceptional piece of work (like, REALLY exceptional) or gained a certain amount of credits (the school point system), your name would be written down in the Golden Book, so your achievement would be remembered even years on from now. Getting an entry in the Golden Book was the one thing everybody in school worked towards, and soon, I too joined the race.

Since then, I probably worked harder than I ever had. Like my classmates around me, I had the Golden Book in my sights. And so that was how I worked until December 2018, when I got my first Golden Book entry – a DOUBLE ENTRY too, if that wasn’t surprising enough. I couldn’t believe it! Up until then, being able to make my mark in the Golden Book seemed so out of reach to me. And here I was, holding the pen in my hand that would write down my name in the prestigious Golden Book! Little did I know that by the end of my first academic year, I would have a total of not 1, not 2, but 4 Golden Book entries, meaning that my name was carved into school history four times! What a great way to end the school year alongside my unexpected exam results! I don’t know how I did it, but it was indeed a miracle!

Alhamdulillah, I feel so blessed to earn such a great achievement. However, I cannot claim that this is just a product of my hard work. I would not have achieved this without my teachers. Their fruitful teachings have benefited me in countless ways, not just academically! My friends have also given me their support and encouragement. It’s true to say that a friend’s motivation is like no other!

Above all, a lot of the credit goes to my family, especially my parents, Mrs Mom and Mr Dad, without whom I would have never gotten this far. They are the ones who have been sacrificing a lot for me. Their unconditional love and endless support have motivated me to keep on working harder!

And how could I forget all of you wonderful people? You are our loving supporters! I may not know all of you, but your love, prayers, and kind words touch my heart. There is no way I could thank you all enough! May God shower you and your families with the best of blessings!

And of course, all praise is due to Allah, for He is the one who has seen all my struggles, and He is the one who has showered His endless blessings upon me. For now, all I can do is thank Allah and pray that next year will be as fruitful as this one.

I also know that somewhere, somehow, my Mamajee is watching over me. I just hope that I have done enough to make him proud of his nephew as he looks on. May Allah let us all be reunited in Jannah.

Last but not least, I would like to say goodbye to the Shells year. It has shaped me into the KES boy I am today!

Blessed,

Omar Mukhtar

Giving Thanks On This Special Day!

Twelve years ago, I was sent as a blessing from God to an amazing couple who I am now proud to call Mrs Mom and Mr Dad. They said I was their #LuckyNumber1, but really I am the one who is blessed to have such PAWSOME parents!

Some may think I was born with intelligence, but that’s not the truth at all! My parents were the soul source of all my skills. They identified my interests, and from day 1, they guided me and eventually helped to shape me into who I am today! I am often complimented for my skills, and I really appreciate it! But I must say, all this praise should be going to my parents! Behind every great child, there are two even greater parents! In my case, that is Mrs Mom and Mr Dad! They have made a lot of sacrifices to make my future as bright as it can be!

So for my birthday, I insisted my parents not to get me any gifts or even a cake. Anyway, it feels wrong after knowing that Mrs Mom endured more than 24 hours of labour pain to bring me into this world! Not forgotten, my parents had to go through a lot of challenges to raise me in a foreign country away from their families. If I told you all the things they did for me, from pregnancy until now, it would be endless! I couldn’t possibly repay them enough!

So today, on my twelfth birthday, I humbly ask everyone to pray for my wonderful parents, Mrs Mom and Mr Dad! All acknowledgement is due to them! Because honestly, they’re the ones who deserve it, not me! I mean, look at all the things that they have cherished over the years. They still kept most of the things from the pregnancy days up until now! Believe it or not, they have my lock of hair from my first haircut and even the pregnancy test! Not only that, there are lots of other bits and bobs too!

As for me, I’d like to give my parents a great big THANK YOU, a warm hug, kisses and prayers and, most importantly, the sincere love that only a truly grateful son can give! Thank you, Mrs Mom and Mr Dad! You’re the greatest gifts that any child could ever get on his birthday!

“The best presents are those that are given to you on the day you are born: your MOTHER and FATHER!”

Happy Birthday Dadijee!

dadijee birthday

It was Dadijee’s birthday on Friday 8th June 2018, and it was a very special day indeed! Dadijee is an amazing grandma to all three of us – me, Fatimah and Ali – and a brilliant mother to Mrs Mom! She’s an ideal role model: she’s kind, considerate, and loving! She’s always there to help us and support us in bad times. She is willing to spare her time to listen to us, and she will always have some handy words of wisdom to share! And of course, her cooking is PAWSOME! But most of all, she’s loving! She’ll always be there to comfort us, as a grandma, mother and friend!

So today, I wish Dadijee a very Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday Dadijee! May God bestow all the greatest of blessings upon you! And what could be better than celebrating her birthday than when we’re all here together? Yes, that’s right, Dadijee and all the family just arrived on Thursday, right on time for her birthday! It’s so nice to have the family together for this special occasion! And as my gift as a grandson to a grandma, a special poem specially for one of the amazing people in my life!

A Brilliant Grandma

A Poem By Omar Mukhtar, The Pawsome Lion

She is a brilliant grandma,

With special qualities,

She’s kind, unique and sweet,

And puts up with my frivolities!

She is a brilliant grandma,

A brilliant cook too,

And so much food upon the plates,

It’s more than I can chew!

She is a brilliant grandma,

And on her birthday,

A thank you

Is the least I could do

For all she’s done for me

But I think I’ll start with that

Thank You and Happy Birthday!

p/s: Dear God,

Please shower my grandma with the greatest of blessings and reserve her the best place in Heaven – she really deserves it!

Love,

Omar Mukhtar a.k.a. The Pawsome Lion

Happy 68th Birthday Dadajee!

dadajee 1.jpg

Dear Dadajee,

It’s 7th of January 2018, your 68th birthday! You’re the best grandfather anybody could ask for, so on your special day, I pray to God that He will reward you for all the good deeds you have done! May God grant you a long life, filled with good health and all the happiness in the world. May He make all your wishes come true and shower you with His eternal blessings. And most important of all, may He reserve you the best place in Heaven and enable you to be the richest man in Paradise! I really wish I could be there with you on such an occasion – I miss you a lot! Hopefully, we can all be together again soon!

Thank you for always being that person who stood by my side no matter what! You were continuously helping me, advising me and guiding me in life. You made many sacrifices, like when you volunteered to stay behind when everybody went on an outing, just to help time my tests when I was studying for the 11+. You stayed with me from morning till evening, making sure I prayed and ate on time too! Not only that, you made sure I had enough sleep and rest, so I didn’t overwork myself. But most of all, I want to say thank you for making us all smile, laugh and stay cheerful! Your jokes, warm hugs, and even your smile could light up the whole world!

Thank you for everything, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Your loving grandson,

Omar Mukhtar

Goodbye, 2017…

SNOW 2017.jpg

It’s the end of the year, and the time has come to say goodbye to 2017! We would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who has been part of our 2017journey! We deeply appreciate the great amount of support you have given to us and we personally thank each and every one of you who has helped us and shown kindness to us! May God bless all of you and your families!

Above all, we thank God for the countless blessings bestowed on us, not only in this year, but throughout our lives! He truly is Al-Wahhab – The Supreme Bestower – as He has continuously gifted us no matter what! We are also grateful for not only the blessings, but the trials God has put us through as we have gotten through them together as one family, and they have empowered us to be strong.

This year has been PAWSOME! It has been filled with amazing experiences with the family, welcome challenges and eternal blessings and gifts, all thanks to the mercy and kindness of God! There have been many achievements, special occasions and joyous memories shared! It has all enriched us and filled our lives with even more happiness! Like other normal families, we’ve had our ups and downs on the rollercoaster of life, but even though we’ve been tested big-time due to Mrs Mom’s health, we had faith in God and with His blessings, we managed to pull through.

However, just because 2017 has ended doesn’t mean it is the end – InshaAllah it will mean the start of another great year!

11 Things I Love About You

Dear Mr Dad,

The 17th of June has always been a date that our family looks forward to. Yes, it’s your birthday and it’s right next to Father’s Day (Lucky you!)! That’s why I’m writing this post!

Over the years, you’ve been a PAWSOME father and a great husband for Mrs Mom, and you’ve made a lot of sacrifices for us. Ever since I was born, you’ve been like my best friend and you haven’t failed to keep Little Miss Diva and Ali the Salt Bubba happy too! You’ve got a great sense of humour and you’ve got a heart of pure gold! You’ve supported us and loved us with all your heart and you’ve always stood by our side. You are a very -and I mean VERY – PAWSOME dad! After all, you are the one and only Mr Dad! So, we’d all like to say THANK YOU for everything you’ve done! We really appreciate it! And since it’s such a special occasion, I’ve written a lovely (hopefully you’ll find it that way) poem, just for you!

11 Things I Love About You

A poem written by Omar Mukhtar, The Pawsome Lion on behalf of the whole family

Fatimah The Little Miss Diva, Ali The Salt Bubba and Mrs Mom

I love the way you keep us happy,

The way you sing to us,

I love how you smile at us in the morning,

The way you advise us

I love the way you play chess with me,

The way you comb our hair,

I love how you know how to make us laugh,

The way you help with your great sense of fashion

I love the way you love Mrs Mom,

And how you care for her,

But most importantly, I love the way you stand by our side

Which makes you a PAWSOME father!

And on this special day, I’d like to say…

Happy Birthday! Happy Father’s Day!

From your loving family!

Happy birthday and Happy Father’s Day, Mr Dad! We hope they both turn out to be great days! May God grant all of your wishes and make them the best days ever! 😀

p/s: Dear God,

Please reserve my dad the best place in heaven coz he totally deserves it!

When Blessings Knock on Your Door…

Hello pawsome peeps! I hope you’re all as fit as a fiddle! Today’s post is going to be short but I have some PAWSOME news! Wanna find out? Then look below ⤵️

houses of parliament.jpg

Remember last year when I said that I was selected as a school ambassador to go to Parliament? Well, it didn’t happen (yet) because of the Brexit protests. So, the trip was cancelled due to safety precautions. Hearing this, I was heartbroken. 💔 I kept waiting and waiting and waiting even more, and after waiting for almost a year, I thought that it would never happen – until today. I received some RIDICULOUSLY EXCITING news! It turns out that…ME AND NIMAT WILL BE GOING TO PARLIAMENT THIS JUNE!!! XD I couldn’t believe it! It was like a dream come true. I am so pumped up and I just can’t wait to go! Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep tonight; I’m still buzzing with excitement!

I’ll have to end the post here, guys! I know that it wasn’t that long but don’t worry, the next post is coming soon. Ciao!

p/s: Thank you God for your endless blessings! 🙏

A Sad Adios…😭

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye…

As most of you know, the school year is coming to end and the summer holidays are slowly approaching. Everyone’s waving goodbye to their teachers and classes and are anxiously waiting to meet their new class teachers when the three weeks of ‘transition’ come. Transition is a period of time when children can get to know their new teachers and classes.

It’s time to bid farewell to Hazel and greet my new Year 5 class which is Oak! My new teacher will be Miss Parker and the LSP (teaching assistant) is Mr Johnson. Miss Parker will be our teacher for the three weeks of transition only as a new teacher will be appointed in September. I can’t wait to meet her/him! Hopefully they’re just like Miss Javed!

Wednesday was Parent’s Day at SHP, the day everyone received their yearly reports. As usual, everyone was nervous about the grades that they would get-especially me! There was a tense atmosphere when my family and I entered the classroom. We were all waiting for the moment when Miss Javed handed over my report for the year…

Then, the results were revealed! My report was…OUTSTANDING!!!! WAHEY!! My grades in Literacy, Maths, Science, R.E (Religious Education), Learning Together and P.E were superlative! I really need to thank God that everything in my report was great! This achievement is not mine to claim! It belongs to everyone, my family, friends, teachers and all you PAWSOME peeps because everyone has been supporting me all along and helped me to gain this achievement!

IMG_1688.JPG

Of course, my report wouldn’t have been outstanding without the hard work of all the PAWSOME people in my life! I would like to thank each and every one of them!

  1. Thank you God for making this possible!
  2. Thank you Mrs Mom and Mr Dad for supporting me throughout my journey from Moseley (old school) to SHP!
  3. Thank you Little Miss Diva and Baby A for being the cutest brother and sister in the whole wide world!
  4. Thank you Dr Auntie for motivating me to do my best!
  5. Thank you Mr OCD Uncle for being such an inspirational uncle to me!
  6. Thank you Dadajee and Khun Yai Thi Rak Khong Phom for always building up my ideas!
  7. Thank you Miss Javed and Miss Hussain for being the greatest teachers I have ever met!
  8. Thank you Hazel class for always standing by my side!
  9. Thank you SHP for building me up from who I was in Moseley to who I am today!
  10. Last but not least, I would like to thank all of my family and friends, my blog readers, all of my supporters on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for always supporting and encouraging me!

I am not sharing my results so I can brag about it or anything like that, I am sharing them because I am hoping that I can inspire more people and show them that hard work really does pay off and if we work as one, TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD! And don’t just do it for yourself:

  • Do it for God, who gave you a life, because He wants you to make a good use out of this precious dowry.
  • Do it for your mother, who carried you in her womb for nine months and brought you into this world, so you can make her proud.
  • Do it for your father, who works hard every day to ensure that you live a good life, so you can return the favour.
  • Do it for your teachers, who get through the headaches to make sure you have a high-level education, so you can thank them sincerely.
  • Do it for your brothers and sisters, who look up to you all the time, so you can become a perfect role model.
  • Do it for your friends, who stick with you in times of sorrow, so you can all succeed together.
  • Do it for the unfortunate people in this world, who manage to live in hunger and pain, so they can have a brighter future.
  • Do it for everyone, so TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!

To end this emotional (😪) post, I would like to write a goodbye poem dedicated to Miss Javed and Miss Hussain!

A Sad Adios…

By The Pawsome Lion

You guided us through right from the start,

You loved us all with all your heart

You told us not to work for naught,

You taught us things that meant a lot

You never left us all alone

You made sure we didn’t break our bones

And though we’ve had our smiles and frowns,

We’ve turned the frowns upside down

That’s why I’m saying a sad adios

To two of my favourite amigos!

p/s: Adios Miss Javed and Miss Hussain! I wish you all the best for next year!
